GFG Foundation students look to a sustainable future

GFG Foundation and Rewise Learning, together with LIBERTY Galati, organised a week of exciting and educational activities for students in the dual learning class at Paul Dimo High School. The students used their teamwork and electrical skills to build Bluetooth speakers out of recycled steel cans, using kits with processors, wiring and switches.

Students learned about the environment, its importance in our daily lives and the role LIBERTY Steel plays in making our company a sustainable business. Dorinel Munteanu, coach of the local football team SC Oțelul Galati, also hosted a session on motivation. The week culminated in the students working in teams writing, directing and editing their own animated film about the environment and its impact on the local community.

The future electricians were awarded a certificate of completion at a celebration event on Friday attended by parents, representatives from local education authorities, electricians – former apprentices, and senior management from LIBERTY Galati.

Georgina Crumpton, General Manager of the GFG Alliance and GFG Foundation said: “I’ve been extremely impressed by the enthusiasm shown by our students this week, they have embraced a new way of learning and applied their knowledge of STEM in both the practical activities and their written observations. As well as demonstrating excellent STEM and practical skills, our students have shown fantastic teamwork and communication skills throughout the week. Investing in future generations is of great importance to us and I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved this week.”

All GFG Foundation programmes focus on developing essential life skills to prepare students for employment after school. As part of the dual learning programme, GFG Foundation and Rewise Learning are developing an education programme that offers a UK accredited qualification.

The 21 students from the Paul Dimo Technical High School dual learning class are supported by the GFG Foundation and LIBERTY Galati with monthly scholarships and bespoke education programmes. Dual education combines the teaching of theoretical knowledge by teachers with practical activities carried out with the help of LIBERTY Galati mentors. During their internships at LIBERTY Galati, the students will learn in a workshop prepared especially for them and will receive protective and work equipment, transport, and food.

Founded by Sanjeev Gupta and his wife Nicola, the GFG Foundation is a charity that aims to develop education programmes that give young people an insight into industry through real-world experiences, whilst developing their confidence, communication and interpersonal skills. Founded in the UK in 2017 and launched in Romania in the summer of 2021, the GFG Foundation works with educational partners to help thousands of young people through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs to develop their entrepreneurial skills and to inspire them by introducing them to opportunities in their communities.

GFG Foundations’ partnership with Rewise Learning started in 2017 when the organization designed a bespoke education programme – Geared Up for STEM – to promote and inspire STEM learning for young people throughout Newport, South Wales. Rewise Learning is an award-winning UK creative learning and e-learning provider, delivering educational services such as education projects, learning resources, and learning courses.
