LIBERTY Galati and GFG Foundation will run the highly successful Robotics Club, their educational project dedicated to the children of LIBERTY Galati’s employees, again next summer.
Over 120 children participated this summer in the Robotics Club pilot project, which provided a suitable framework to prepare young people for the future and to develop their passion for innovative subjects to complement their school curricula. The children, aged between 7 and 18 years old, enjoyed the opportunity to study robotics, building various robot models using programming and LEGO parts.
Ajay Aggarwal, President of LIBERTY Steel Group Europe and Chairman of the Board of Directors of LIBERTY Galati, said: “We have noticed an incredible interest from the parents at LIBERTY Galati to provide an interactive experience for their children this summer and we are glad that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to further their interest in these new technologies and provide a suitable framework for developing their skills. Family and change are two of our core values, which is why we are so pleased to be able to offer even more children from the Galati community the opportunity to participate in this great project next year.”
Georgina Crumpton, General Manager of the GFG Alliance and GFG Foundation, said: “We are committed to the Galati community and, in particular, the educational sector. All GFG Foundation projects aim to support the next generation and prepare them for a different, cleaner, greener, and technology-defined future. Along with the dual learning programme focused on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at the “Paul Dimo” Technological High School, the Robotics Club represents another successful project dedicated to the new generation, as their future will be driven by yet more amazing changes in technology. I’m looking forward to welcoming a new group of children next summer.”
Florin Vârtosu, employed in the Furnaces Department, said: “It was a great experience, and my child was very excited about the activities he did. The Robotics Club developed his passion for programming, for LEGO and robots, and I’m glad he had this opportunity.”
GFG Foundation Romania and LIBERTY Galati are great supporters of the community and the education of young people in Galati. This autumn the dual learning programme, focusing on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), continues at the “Paul Dimo” Technological High School with a new class of another 20 students starting in the 2023-2024 school year. Offering a UK accredited qualification the programme, designed with Rewise Learning, focuses on developing essential life skills to prepare students for employment after school. The students are supported by LIBERTY Galați and the GFG Foundation with monthly scholarships and bespoke education programmes, and have the opportunity to study in a specially prepared workshop with work and protective equipment. Also, GFG Foundation Romania and LIBERTY Galati have shown their support for the Galati community and the education of the city’s younger generation by attending the City Hall in the Gala of Excellence in Education, contributing to the rewarding of 800 students who finished the school year 2022-2023 with an overall grade of 10.
Founded by Sanjeev Gupta and his wife Nicola, the GFG Foundation is a charity that aims to develop education programmes that give young people an insight into industry through real-world experiences, whilst developing their confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills. Founded in the UK in 2017 and launched in Romania in the summer of 2021, the GFG Foundation works with educational partners to help thousands of young people through STEM programmes to develop their entrepreneurial skills and to inspire them by introducing them to opportunities in their communities.
