LIBERTY Galati opens the 10th edition of its Summer School
- LIBERTY Galati celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its internship programme
- The plant will welcome 46 students from Galati, Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj and Constanta Universities
LIBERTY Galati celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its Summer School by welcoming 46 students from universities across Romania to join its internship programme.
For the next ten weeks, the interns who have been selected from around 150 applicants from Galati, Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj and Constanta Universities, will be full-time employees and will work on projects with direct industrial applicability for the Plant. The interns, who will be supported by mentors from within the industrial unit, will attend training sessions in order to develop various skills, as well as team building activities that aim to create synergies and highlight the importance of team working.
Paramjit Kahlon, CEO Primary Steel and Integrated Mining, LIBERTY Steel Group, said: “The future of steel relies on achieving carbon neutrality. That is our GREENSTEEL ambition for LIBERTY Galati, but the Plant’s transformation will also benefit your future. So, we are delighted to invite you, as our future specialists, to be part of this important journey for the Plant, for the future of steel and the future of the planet.”
Aida Nechifor, General Manager of LIBERTY Galați, said: “Our Summer School will show you our Plant and that the steel industry is different from what you may think. We are constantly changing and now – more than ever – we must adapt to the new industrial realities and to GREENSTEEL. This means that we need ambitious and well-trained young experts and we are very glad to welcome you into the 10th edition of the programme”.
“I am happy that big companies such as LIBERTY are continuing this type of interactions with the Universities. It means that students can enrich their knowledge earned in classes and laboratories. I am equally happy that 80% of the students in this Summer School are ours”, Lucian Georgescu, the Rector of Galati “Lower Danube” University, said to the interns.
In 2020, LIBERTY Galați and the University of Galati signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the LIBERTY GREENSTEEL Academy, in order to encourage young specialists to join the steel industry and to help developing sustainable production processes by means of advanced scientific research.
Since 2012, more than 400 students have graduated this Summer School, of which 35% have been employed in the Plant.
