LIBERTY Galaţi invests Eur7 Million in state-of-the-art pollution control equipment

The steel company and its people are determined to prove that they can produce more and better steel by protecting the environment effectively, in line with GFG’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.

LIBERTY Galați has completed the installation works for a new dedusting plant in its upstream steelworks, a Hybrid Filter serving the Sintering Machine no. 5. The new equipment, now in final tests, substantially reduces the dust emissions resulting from the sintering process, using a technology implemented for the first time in the Steel Plant.

“Despite the difficulties the market is going through, we continue to act in order to comply with our environmental commitments and the European norms”
Bogdan Grecu, General Manager of LIBERTY Galați.

The Hybrid Filter reduces the dust emissions at stack by more than 50% compared to the previous equipment and brings them within the limits set by the European Union and as per the requirements of the Romanian Integrated Environmental Permit, which entered into force at the end of last year.

The project consisted of the transformation of the electrostatic precipitator on the Sintering Machine into a hybrid filter which holds the dust in successive stages, firstly in an electrostatic field and then in filtering bags.

The new investment was around 7 million Euros and has a dust retention efficiency of over 99%, as well as a significantly improved energy consumption.

Over the last 12 years, LIBERTY Galaţi has spent around 190 million Euros in depollution equipment and other environmental improvements.
