Laying Foundations for the LIBERTY – GREENSTEEL ACADEMY
LIBERTY Galați and “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați have already made the first steps in creating the LIBERTY – GREENSTEEL Academy. The two partners finalized a first set of collaborative initiatives both in applied scientific research (including specialized testing) and in the educational field, following a visit and a detailed discussion that took place at the headquarters of the higher education institution.
An extended delegation of the Plant visited a series of laboratories and micro-production points of the University and explored – together with professors and researchers – possible areas of common interest in technical field such as: robotics, automation, electrical engineering, welding and cutting with plasma, corrosion protection, nano-technologies, environmental protection, polymeric and injectable materials and others.
During a working conference with the managements of the technical faculties, possible applications of some technical studies and researches have been put forward, with applicability in some processes of the plant. Discussions were also carried out on strengthening the exchange of data on the profile of academic training, in order to bring it closer to the needs of the industry and the steel producer of Galati.
“We are not only interested in student training but also in research, testing, micro-production and technical integration. Following the discussions we had, numerous ideas for our experts and those of the University to focus on came out. It have been already a few years since, based on our Internship program (Summer School, scholarships, thematic sessions) we created a first bridge to the educational system, but now is the time for us to step further”, stated Bogdan Grecu, Chief Executive Officer of LIBERTY Galați.
“During the visit, the representatives of LIBERTY Galați observed some aspects of our activity that could become the basis of a future collaboration. We are convinced that we can develop some topics of common interest, depending on the priorities of each institution, in order to succeed in materializing this approach and to make possible the transfer of know-how in both directions. We have to learn from the economic and social environment, on the one hand, and on the other hand, we can transfer our experience and skills to LIBERTY “, said PhD Eng. Puiu – Lucian Georgescu, Rector of ”Dunărea de Jos” University.
LIBERTY Galați and “Dunărea de Jos” University signed in June 2020 a collaboration protocol called LIBERTY – GREENSTEEL Academy in order to encourage more young specialists to join the steel industry, to help develop sustainable production methods but also to strengthen relations in the fields of scientific and educational research.
