Roll Shop Repairman (Peoria, IL, US)

The Position: We are looking for a Roll Shop Repairman for our Rod Mill. This position sets up and operates roll grinders or roll lathe for turning all types of new and redress iron, steel, alloy, and carbide rolls to finished size, contour and surface for rolling any shape or flat section.
Responsibilities:

Receives instructions and orders regarding work assignment and interprets same.
Inspect rolls for continued use in mill if possible.
Plans work procedure, obtain and determine proper use of tools and gauges during machining operations.
Performs lathe or grinder machining operation, determining amount of stock removal, performing layout, calculating dimensions, etc.
Requires continuous gauge checks, inspections and tool adjustments during machining operation. Proceed to turn any type of roll to specified tolerance and finished size. Use portable grinder on rolls as necessary.
Hooks up and operates/directs crane in roll handling for the purpose of placing or removing rolls from machines (roll changes), and other roll handling and miscellaneous work.
Maintain templates, callibers, and other measuring devices.
Service lathe or grinder before, during, and after machining operations with lubricants, oils, etc.
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition, to include emptying scrap pans, maintaining bath solution as necessary, painting, etc.
Responsible for chock and bearing inventory and maintenance of bearings.
Performs repairs on equipment used and serviced when practical.
Performs line boring and other similar activities as required.
Occasionally burns and performs simple layout work and welding in conjunction with roll shop work.
Repairs guides and bevel gear drives as required.
Assists Mechanical Technician when required.
Observes all safety regulations.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum three years Journeyman Machinist experience.
Self-started with a positive attitude.
Ability to pass Machinist test.
Ability to multitask.
