GFG Foundation and LIBERTY Galati celebrate over 650 top students from Galati

GFG Foundation Romania and LIBERTY Galati have yesterday celebrated the achievements of over 650 top students from Galati, at the Gala of Excellence in Education. During the event held in the Public Garden, the students with the overall grade of 10, the children with extraordinary performances in school Olympics, as well as the 21 students in the GFG Foundation programme from the dual learning class from the “Paul Dimo” High School – a class founded with the support of GFG Foundation and LIBERTY Galați – were awarded with certificates of achievement.

GFG Foundation and LIBERTY Galați are partners – together with the City Hall and Gloria Education Foundation – of the Gala of Excellence in Education for the second year in a row, supporting young people and the local community. During the event many educational activities were organised, giving children the opportunity to learn how steel is produced at LIBERTY Galați. Among the activities most appreciated by the participants were chemical experiments, such as hydrogen generation and 3D printing of protective equipment needed on the steel platform.

Georgina Crumpton, General Manager GFG Alliance & GFG Foundation, said: “I am impressed by the large number of students who finished this school year with an overall grade of 10 as I know that there is a lot of hard work, discipline and dedication behind this result. I am delighted that we were able to support the Excellence in Education Gala again this year and to recognise the merit of these outstanding children. I am also very proud of the GFG Foundation students from the dual learning class from Paul Dimo Technological High School, who were celebrated at this year’s Gala. Both the Gala of Excellence in Education and the dual learning programme are extremely important projects for us at GFG Foundation and we want to continue to invest in future generation, to support them as we are dedicated to the education of young people in Galati.”

Prasanta Mishra, Director Executiv, LIBERTY Galați, said: “I am glad to see that Galati has so many talented young people with outstanding academic achievements. As we face a radical transformation towards a modern green steel industry with a high level of automation and digitization, we believe young people are the ones who will help us achieve a greener, cleaner future for LIBERTY Galati and for our local community. We invite young people to be the change makers in our industry – and join our company to help transform it for the future. Together we can achieve the goal of becoming a carbon neutral company by 2030”.

Mihaela Vereș, HR Manager, LIBERTY Galati, said: “We are actively engaged in the young generation’s education in Galati and we are running many educational projects in collaboration with high schools and universities including: the Discover GREENSTEEL module, developed in partnership with the “Dunărea de Jos” University; our Summer School – now in its 12th edition; internship programmes for high school students; and our new, two year trainee programme, dedicated to graduates who want a career in the steel industry and contribute to the company’s decarbonisation plans.”
