Project Electrical Engineer (Melbourne, VIC, AU)

About the role

The SIMEC Energy Projects team develop ‘best in class’ renewables energy and hydrogen solutions in line with GFG’s energy strategy to optimize GFG’s energy solutions to meet emission reduction objectives in Australia.

As the Project Electrical Engineer, you will support all the processes involved in the electrical engineering and network connection requirements of GFG’s energy and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities requiring your support:

  • The development of innovative strategies to successfully understand project connection network challenges and manage the detailed power system analysis of the grid required
  • End to end grid connection processes for modifications and new equipment developments
  • The technical, commercial and legal aspects of renewable energy connections from early-stage development to registration, commissioning and energisation
  • Grid connection testing obligations, including the generator registration connection process from start to finish
  • Develop high-level primary and secondary protection systems for HV connections to the Network
  • Develop high-level conceptual designs, engineering system design review process and quality control documentation
  • Manage technical consultants and subcontractors for any technical aspects of the project while also coordinating with all stakeholders internally and externally.
     

About your experience

Key criteria to be successful in the position:
 

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
  • HV Experience is essential
  • 5 plus years-experience in either industrial, commercial, renewable energy or engineering consulting with a focus on engineering design or grid connection
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to co-ordinate, engage and influence relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience understanding complex problems and ablility to design innovative solutions
  • Experience with power system studies – desirable
  • Experience with wind/solar/battery projects – desirable
  • Knowledge of grid regulatory process for connecting new projects – desirable
