LIBERTY Ostrava supporting major bridge construction programme in Ghana
LIBERTY Ostrava, the Czech Republic’s leader in the production of safety barriers, is supporting a large-scale Czech Bridge Project to design, manufacture and install 50 modular composite bridges in Ghana. In the project, which includes single and multi-span bridges with a length of 20 to 50 meters, the steelworks has manufactured and supplied more than 4,500 meters of safety barrier systems worth millions of Czech crowns. LIBERTY Ostrava acts in the projects as a subcontractor of MCE Slaný, the technology supplier. The main contractor is Knights.
LIBERTY Ostrava has already produced and dispatched all of the barriers needed for the assembly of the new bridges. Barriers from Ostrava will now travel from Hamburg to Ghana for the construction of new bridges, as well as replacement of some existing ones.
The Czech Bridge Project for the turnkey implementation was signed between Knights a.s. and the Ghanaian Ministry of Roads and Highways, is financed by ČSOB of the Czech Republic and insured by EGAP, the Export Credit Agency of the Czech Republic. The main subcontractor of the project in the Czech Republic is MCE Slaný s.r.o. in conjunction with MCE GmbH of Austria.
„Participating in this contract is a great opportunity for us as, given the size and expected duration of the vital infrastructure project, it offers the possibility of a long-term cooperation,” said Václav Habura, Director Operations at LIBERTY Ostrava.
“The bridges will improve accessibility to hospitals, schools, markets and other social or cultural facilities and help to achieve more efficient transport of agricultural production. The project will also offer plenty of jobs for local businesses,” added Ing. Karl Laryea, Ph.D., CEO of Knights a.s.
