LIBERTY Ostrava appoints new HR director

LIBERTY Ostrava, a major integrated steel producer in the Czech Republic, has appointed František Šourek, a highly experienced Czech professional, as its new HR Director. František takes over the role from Jaroslav Vystrk, Ostrava’s previous HR and Legal Director, who is leaving the company to focus on the law.

František Šourek joins LIBERTY Ostrava from NKT, a leading supplier of power cables with more than 4, 000 employees in 14 countries, for whom he had been the HR vice-president since early 2017. While at NKT he led the implementation of a global model of HR service provision as well implementing a SAP IT and control system, which is similar to that used across LIBERTY Steel Group.

Previously František served as NKT’s HR Director for the Czech Republic and later for central Europe as well as in HR management roles at TRW,  Schiedel and Faurecia Interior Systems. He has worked in HR since 2001 and has held HR managerial positions since his graduation from Jan Amos Komenský University in Prague in 2007.

Paramjit Kahlon, CEO, Primary Steel and Integrated Mining, LIBERTY Steel Group, said: “We are glad to welcome František to the LIBERTY Ostrava team – we believe his extensive HR experience, his skill in implementing major improvement systems and his local knowledge will be invaluable to the future of the business. I am looking forward to František focusing on our efforts to collaborate even more closely with our employee representatives so that together we can achieve our production targets and drive ahead Ostrava’s GREENSTEEL transformation plan.”

František Šourek, LIBERTY Ostrava’s new HR Director, said: “Working at LIBERTY will be a new challenge for me. I want to follow up on the work of my predecessors especially in the area of building the employer´s brand externally and internally through the gradual implementation of a range of new initiatives. I also want to put the systems in place so that enough skilled workers are secured for smooth production. It will be a challenging task considering the current tight labour market, but I am sure that in collaboration with my team, the management, the unions and all employees we will make it happen.”
