LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool has been awarded two contracts by Subsea7 for the Aker BP operated Yggdrasil and Valhall PWP-Fenris offshore field development projects in the North Sea.
LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool will produce a combined 16.6 kms of longitudinally submerged arc welded (LSAW) pipe for the contracts, supplying them to Subsea7’s bundle fabrication facility at Wester, outside Wick, Scotland. Pipe manufacturing will commence shortly at LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool facility and will continue throughout 2023.
Jeffrey Kabel, LIBERTY Steel’s Chief Transformation Officer said:
“LIBERTY’s success in winning this significant new North Sea contract, on top of our recent achievement in becoming the UK’s first producer of hydrogen pipe material and one of a handful globally, highlights how our pipes division can drive development of much-needed new energy infrastructure in the UK and around the world. The specialist expertise of our Hartlepool team means we are well-positioned to compete for new orders that can create UK jobs, benefit the wider economy, support energy transition and strengthen UK energy security.”
Martyn Curnow, Commercial Director for LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool said:
“We are extremely proud to have secured these contracts. We look forward to delivering both projects safely and to the satisfaction of our longstanding client Subsea7.”
The LSAW pipes will be produced according to API 5L specifications with exacting tolerances to ensure the fabrication and subsequent installation process run smoothly and efficiently. The pipes will also be coated by LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool prior to delivery.
LIBERTY’s LSAW product will act as the outer carrier pipe for the overall Subsea7 pipeline bundle incorporating all structures, valves, pipelines and control systems within the prefabricated system. Fabrication of the complete assembly takes place onshore, before being towed offshore for installation.
Yggdrasil, formally known as NOAKA, consists of the Hugin, Fulla and Munin licence groups, located between Alvheim and Oseberg area in the North Sea. The Yggdrasil field development project involves multiple subsea tiebacks to fixed platforms in the Yggdrasil greenfield development.
The Valhall PWP-Fenris project, located in the southern North Sea, involves a tieback from the Fenris unmanned installation to the new Valhall production wellhead platform and re-routing of existing gas export and gas lift pipelines to the new platform.
