Liberty House Group invests in Lochaber Community
Liberty British Aluminium, part of the GFG Alliance, new owners of the Lochaber Smelter, has made a further investment in the Lochaber Community with sponsorship of Fort William Football Club.
Liberty will be the main sponsor of Fort William Football Club (FWFC) for the upcoming 2017/18 season of the Scottish Highland Football League with investment of a significant four figure sum in the club. This will see the company’s name emblazoned on the main match day strip.
Brian King, managing director of Lochaber Operations for Liberty and its sister GFG Alliance company, SIMEC, said ‘As a longstanding and growing employer in this area we are eager to be an integral part of the community as well as the local economy. We are pleased to be able to support the only team in the Scottish Highland Football League based in the West Highlands and Islands. It is important for the future of football in the area that the senior team provides a focus to which the youth development players can aspire.’
FWFC play at Claggan Park which adjoins land owned by Liberty British Aluminium and which was formerly the sports ground for employees of the Smelter.
The sponsorship news comes following the recent announcement of a new locally-based FWFC management team lead by Paul Maclennan.
Stewart Maclean, Director of FWFC, said ‘We are obviously delighted that Liberty has agreed to sponsor FWFC and join the more than 40 local businesses which support the club. Meeting the costs of operating the club presents us with a significant challenge every year particularly due to travel costs.’
