International Women's Day
Meet Jane from ALVANCE British Aluminium
Jane started working at Lochaber as a summer intern whilst studying for her Business Management degree. On graduating, and with the new £45m investment into the site, she was eager to work on a project that would make a difference to the local community, so she joined the business full-time.
Since then, Jane has made the most of the diverse opportunities available to her, performing both technical and operational roles, including becoming the first female Pot Room Supervisor in the history of Lochaber. She is now the Operations Manager and is responsible for 80 people, the largest team on site. She says that her biggest achievement to date has been improving efficiency and reducing costs at the site, by building a cross-functional team with a high degree of flexibility.
Jane is constantly expanding her knowledge, and of particular interest to her is caring about the natural environment and recognising the steps we all must take to take steps to reduce our carbon footprint. She recognises that the goal of Carbon Neutrality in 2030 can only be achieved if we act collectively.
She has witnessed the increase in the number of female employees at the site over the years as preconceptions about the business have been eroded; and she sees an industry that is constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated in its processes. With skills that are transferable and a huge diversity of roles, she encourages more people to be open to a career in the sector. Jane really is a great example of women paving the way in the industry and we celebrate her skills, passion and success on this International Women’s Day.
