Reinforcing steel from LIBERTY Ostrava will be part of the new junction in Pilsen
LIBERTY Ostrava has delivered reinforcing bars worth approximately 10 million crowns for the construction of an underground road in the city of Pilsen. The rebars will be used to reinforce the ceiling slab of the structural frame for a road tunnel that will be built under the railway track. The Ostrava steelworks annually produces more than 240,000 tonnes of rebars and rebars in coils which are used mainly on the Czech market.
Reinforcing steel from LIBERTY Ostrava will be used to reinforce the cover slab of a 220-meter-long structural frame of a future road tunnel in Pilsen, consisting of two tubes that will lead under the railway line. In the future, the frame will be completed in the form of a full-fledged bidirectional road tunnel with four lanes. The project called the Plzeň 5 Junction, which includes the modernization of the railway line and the preparation of the future tunnel, is being implemented by the Czech Network Rail Authority in conjunction with the Czech Highways and Roads Authority.
In addition to the domestic market, LIBERTY Ostrava supplies rebars to customers in Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Romania. Bars for concrete reinforcement are one of the modern building elements that are widely used in construction nowadays. They are used in ceiling structures, floors, concrete bridges, road structures, high-rise concrete structures, columns and foundations of buildings. The production of rebars for concrete reinforcement has a long tradition in Ostrava. More than 4 million tonnes of rebars have been produced in the Ostrava steelworks since the 1980s.
René Pelánek, segment manager for long product sales at LIBERTY Ostrava, said: “In LIBERTY Ostrava we pay great attention and care to the development of this type of steel, mainly due to the strict safety requirements for such constructions. Our rebars provide buildings with high strength and withstand the most demanding applications.“
