LIBERTY Ostrava has awarded employees who got engaged in the On a Bike to Work challenge in May
Hundreds of employees commute to work by bike every day. Some of them also got engaged in the eleventh nation-wide On a Bike to Work challenge that supports active and safe means of transport. A total of 42 employees from different plants signed up for the challenge and together they had ridden or walked over 17, 000 kilometres. Yesterday, the mill presented them awards for the best performances.
„Every day, several hundreds of workers commute to the mill on a bike. In order to support this active means of transport which moreover strengthens the relationship among colleagues at workplace, the mill will cover their registration costs. Furthermore, we have rewarded the best team of the mill as well as the extraordinary performances of individuals who rode or walked the highest number of kilometres,” says Barbora Černá Dvořáková who is in charge of Corporate Responsibility at LIBERTY Ostrava.
The most kilometres were recorded by Pavel Hřivňacký who had ridden 2, 093 km. He ranked 9th among the Ostrava bikers and on a national level he came in 65th. „I live in Kravaře and go by bike to work every day. The shortest way measures 38 kilometres one way. I wanted to collect some extra kilometres during the challenge so I took a longer way,“ explained Pavel Hřivňacký from the hot strip mill. His performance is also remarkable due to the means he has been using. „A friend of mine was throwing away an old female bike. I was sorry for the bike and so I took it and I have been riding it for ten years now. Annually, I ride over seven thousand kilometres so the only original components are the frame and the saddle but they still hold up,“ he added.
