Instead of working for the mill employees of Liberty Ostrava gave a hand in non-profit organisations for the twelfth consecutive time
Ostrava, 29 November 2019 – 75 employees of Liberty Ostrava took the opportunity to exchange their regular working day at the mill for helping in non-profit organisations in Ostrava and the neighbouring areas. This year, they worked a total of 562.5 hours in 15 non-profit organisations, which amounts to the value of c. CZK 175,000.
Employees of the mill got engaged in a variety of activities such as cleaning up gardens, spouts, chopping and stacking up the firewood, painting and redecorating, various repairs, keeping company to seniors and people with special needs. They also made Christmas decorations and helped decorate gingerbread sweets with senior citizens for their St. Nicholas party.
“We always appreciate the help very much and this year again we are grateful for helpers from the steel mill. They were great. They helped us dismantle bicycles for spare parts, pull axles out of rear wheel hubs, and repair and wash bicycles for charity sales,” said Daniel Ščigel, Project Coordinator for Bicycles for Africa.
The company has been holding Corporate volunteering days since 2008 during which employees exchange their ordinary working duties for help in non-profit organisations. Some participants got used to helping out in organisations with which they have been cooperating for a long time. Some workplaces of the mill take this opportunity as a way of team building.
