Dunaújváros steelworks welcomes President Novák

Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Chairman of LIBERTY Steel Group, today welcomed Hungarian President Katalin Novák, Dr. János Fónagy, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, State Secretary Gergely Fábián and local member of Parliament Dr. Lajos Mészárosto to the Dunaújváros steel works as the President visited the business as part of a planned visit to the Dunaújváros area.

The visitors were hosted at the steelworks by Ajay Aggarwal, LIBERTY Steel Group’s European President, Sandip Biswas, CEO of LIBERTY Primary Steel & Mining, and other senior members of LIBERTY’s European management team. Following a private meeting with the LIBERTY team, President Novák was given a tour of the plant’s high-quality Hot Strip Mill by the plant’s HR Director Dr Róbert Móger and other members of the LIBERTY and Dunaújváros team.

Ajay Aggarwal, LIBERTY Steel Group’s European President, said: “We were very pleased to welcome President Novák and the Government representatives to the steelworks as it is a place that is moving from a past it can be proud of to a sustainable future it richly deserves.  It was great that the LIBERTY team could discuss our efforts over the last nine months in support of the plant, its employees and the local community. We also enjoyed the opportunity to tell them about our ambitious decarbonisation plans for the future, based on the new EAF for which we signed a partnership agreement only two weeks ago, which will be underpinned by our GREENSTEEL Academy and the GFG Foundation.

“Through our plans and by installing our core values of change, sustainability and family, the Dunaújváros steel works will be at the heart of this change, ushering in a green revolution that will eventually transform the global industry. A green revolution that will see reduced emissions, increased productivity and greater prosperity for the workforce and wider community right here in Dunaújváros. We look forward to showing the President and our other guests this plant in the future when it is greener, profitable and sustainable for the long term.”
