Liberty Czestochowa is targeting shipments of GREENSTEEL to 85,000 tonnes a month as part of a new strategy announced by Toker Ozcan, LIBERTY Steel Group’s new CEO of GREENSTEEL EMEA, who visited the plant for the first time earlier this month having taken on his role in November.
The new production target is a major part of the plant’s „55-65-85“ strategy which initially aims to achieve monthly shipments of 55,000 tonnes of GREENSTEEL metal sheets by April 2022. The campaign will be promoted across the plant to encourage all employees to buy in to the plant’s future development.
The target is to be primarily achieved through the renovations planned at the plate mill in 2022, which will include upgrades to both cutting lines, as well as by streamlining logistics and the improving the loading of steel sheets. Also part of the new strategy will be the recruitment and training of new production workers so that the long term future of the plant is secured.
Toker Ozcan, who is responsible for LIBERTY Steel Group’s GREENSTEEL electric furnace operations at Liberty Częstochowa, in the UK and India, as well as its European downstream mills said: „The goal of LIBERTY is to produce GREENSTEEL, using modern technology, so that we can achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. It is clear to me, having visited the Huta, that the team here are already working hard to achieve that goal. I believe Czestochowa has great potential if we can continue to improve our production. So our immediate goal is to ship 55,000 tons of sheet metal per month, the next goal is 65,000 with our overall target to be shipping 85,000 tonnes a month by the end of the year. For all of those at the plant, “55-65-85” is what we are working towards.“
Krishnamoorthy Venkatasubramanian, CEO of Liberty Czestochowa, said: “I am very glad to be able to welcome Toker and the team so that they can see for themselves the high skills and commitment of our family here at the Huta. They have had a chance to talk to the heads of each of our production and learn about their challenges and ambitions as well as thank them for their efforts in the operational and financial turnaround we have achieved this year. We now look forward to 2022 with confidence.“
