LIBERTY Częstochowa records highest monthly production levels
LIBERTY Częstochowa Sp. z o.o., Poland’s largest producer of low-carbon GREENSTEEL and Europe’s only producer of GREENSTEEL plate, today reports that it has achieved the highest levels of monthly production since it was acquired by LIBERTY Steel Group in May last year. With almost 58,000 tonnes of GREENSTEEL slab and more than 42,000 tonnes of GREENSTEEL plate produced in March, which also saw the highest single amount of plate dispatched in a day, the plant is well on its way to reaching the production target it set at the beginning of the year.
LIBERTY has already significantly improved the business since taking over its lease in December 2020, restarting production of its rolling mill and its EAF shortly afterwards. LIBERTY has steadily increased production to the plant’s highest monthly levels since 2017, restarting the prefabrication plant, starting the renovation of its two plate metal cutting lines and installing the first phase of a new solar farm, which once completed later this year will provide the plant with around 3 MW of renewable energy capacity.
LIBERTY Częstochowa launched its „55-65-85“ production strategy at the beginning of this year, which initially targeted achieving monthly shipments of 55,000 tonnes of GREENSTEEL metal sheets by April 2022. Now that target is close to being achieved, in combination with the best safety performance since the plant restarted, the business is aiming to produce 85,000 tonnes a month by the end of the year. The ambition to produce more than 1 million tonnes a year, is being supported by renovation, modernisation and improving logistics while the new strategy is also expected to lead to the recruitment and training of new production workers.
LIBERTY Częstochowa’s success is an important step in LIBERTY’s ambitions to be a major GREENSTEEL producer in Central and Eastern Europe. The Częstochowa plant expects its products to be used in the major infrastructure and green projects being developed as part of the Polish Government’s Recovery Plan.
Krishnamoorthy Venkatasubramanian, the Executive Director of Liberty Częstochowa, said: “I am very proud of the team here at the Huta Częstochowa for their huge efforts in achieving such tremendous production levels – to have be so close to reaching our initial target is a testament to everyone involved. I am particularly pleased we have achieved these results considering the challenging economic and political environment which has meant we have had to be even more focused on ensuring we are delivering the product and the service our customers want and need. We will now focus on further increasing our plant’s production of high quality GREENSTEEL, ensuring we are helping Poland build a strong and sustainable future.”
