Mine Planning Engineer (5600, SA, AU)
About the role
We have an opportunity available for an enthusiastic, practical person with a background in Mine Planning Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, AI/robotics and/or degree level mathematics to join our high-performance Technical Services team.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you will work closely and collaboratively with the Mining Operations teams and other stakeholders to provide practical and efficient mine plans. Supporting work will include mine and infrastructure design, block model analysis, and initiation and completion of continuous improvement projects. Future work may include working on mining fleet automation, mine planning systems development and optimisation and supply chain systems analysis as well as longer-term mine planning and green/brownfield development work.
Initially, your day-to-day duties will include:
- Mine and mining infrastructure design
- Mine planning using Datamine, Surpac, and OPMS software
- Technical document writing
- Communication with project stakeholders across multiple departments
- Presentation of mine plans and projects to operations
About your experience
To thrive in this role, you will have a positive “can-do” attitude and enjoy working in a supportive, high-performing team environment. This role would suit someone with strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with and communicate effectively across technical and operational departments.
Most important is your desire to learn and succeed. We are invested in your long-term future within mining and are willing to support the right person, with or without mining qualifications/experience, through onsite training and guidance.
You will ideally have:
- A Mining Engineering/Computer Science/Mathematics degree
- Mine design skills – operational mining experience desirable
- High-quality technical document writing skills
- Mine planning experience in multi-plant and multi-pit operations is desirable
- Skills in optimisation systems such as MILP and Flow Optimisation
- Proven coding, machine learning and/or automation skills
