Mechanical Fitter (Rooty Hill, NSW, AU)

About the role

We have a full time Mechanical Fitter role available based out of the Sydney Steel Mill at our Rooty Hill site. You will respond to occasional emergency call outs, have a keen eye and attention to detail with good fitting practices, ensuring the high risk and highly utilized equipment is in its best condition.


This role offers permanent and stable employment, starting on Day shift to learn the site and procedures, then moving onto a mix of day shift & rotating shift roster.


  • Execute planned, preventative & predictive maintenance and asset  inspections

  • Attend to breakdowns & regular shutdown projects

  • Ensure all repairs / replacements are completed to OEM standards and as per regulations

  • Identify opportunities for improvement

  • Provide feedback via the maintenance management system

  • Works on shift and on call support collaborating with the team and Shift leader to ensure progression of repairs

About your experience

A self-starter with heavy industry experience, you are committed to learning the steel industry and hold safety, family, sustainability and change as core values.


  • Mechanical Trade qualification

  • High Rish License – confined spaces, working at heights essential

  • Forklift & Mobile Crane licence and experience highly desirable

  • Extensive fault-finding, troubleshooting, maintenance and shutdown experience

  • Experience with static & rotating equipment, hydraulics, gear boxes, etc.

  • Computer literate and SAP would be advantageous

  • Flexible to work overtime and shutdowns, when required.

InfraBuild’s Steel Manufacturing business unit operates world-class state-of-the-art Steelmaking facilities in Sydney, Newcastle & Melbourne. Operating two electric arc furnaces and four rod and bar rolling mills we use local materials to produce high quality steel products.
