Manufacturing Manager (Sydney, NSW, AU)

About the role

Our Sydney Steel Mill, based at Rooty Hill NSW, is part of the InfraBuild Manufacturing business that produces steel billet from scrap and then rolls the billet to produce Bar products.

A career opportunity now exists for a Manufacturing Manager of the Sydney Meltshop. Reporting into the General Manufacturing Manager, Sydney Steel Mill, this key leadership role will be accountable for managing all aspects of our Sydney Melt Shop operation to sustainably improve performance of WHS, the quality of billet, operating costs, process and equipment efficiencies to enable flexible production capability to meet the market requirements.

You will;

  • Build a world class manufacturing culture that values and delivers excellence, zero injuries, no harm to the environment, quality products and a world competitive cost

  • Develop our Meltshop team through goal setting, appropriate learning and development activities, recruitment, coaching, feedback and performance management.

  • Ensure effective design and implementation of business systems and processes to manage WHS, Environment, People, Customers, Operating processes, Plant & Equipment and financial requirements.

  • Take a pivotal role in InfraBuild’s product scheduling, mill loading, product development and improvement programs.


We are looking for someone with solid communication skills, decisive and confident and with clearly demonstrated mentoring capability and passion for success.

You will also have;

  • Proven experience in leading a steelmaking facility (minimum 5 years), with critical safety system requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in metallurgy, engineering or commercial

  • Understanding of the need to model effective leadership behaviours to build clarity in teamwork and to build organisational capability.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills

  • High level of statistical & problem-solving understanding (Desirable)

  • Extensive knowledge & understanding of effective business management systems (maintenance, cost, commercial, process, quality, logistics etc) (Desirable)

  • Exposure to strong safety systems and methodologies and an understanding of the legislative safety requirements would be desirable

  • Exposure to and experience with SAP would be desirable.
