Human Resources – 2023 Summer Vacation Student (Tahmoor, NSW, AU)
Not your standard Vacation Placement
Our Vacation Program offers a dynamic 12-week paid work placement during the upcoming summer break, starting on approximately 27th November 2023. Crafted for university students working towards their degrees, this programme offers a distinct opportunity to translate your academic insights into practical applications within a real-world context, paving the way for a promising career in the mining industry.
Throughout the programme, participants will be immersed in our mining operations and will actively contribute to a specialised project aligned with their field of study. This hands-on experience takes place within a secure working environment, accompanied by the guidance of on-site mentors, industry leaders, and our business experts.
Your journey will encompass a range of HR activities, including but not limited to:
- Enhancing policies and procedures,
- Revising and collaborating on position descriptions,
- Gain insight to setting Appraisal SMART goals,
- Engage in continuous improvement,
- Provide HRIS support and generalist HR initiatives.
In this role you will work Monday to Friday on-site and you will be expected to embrace autonomy by working independently at times, whilst making meaningful contributions.
About You
We look for adaptable, motivated and enthusiastic individuals who thrive in challenging environments and demonstrate the qualities of resourcefulness and innovation. You must want to be involved in real projects, work as part of a team and make a real contribution to the business.
To be eligible, you will have:
- Full working rights in Australia and currently reside in NSW, Australia;
- Be studying in a relevant HR discipline at an Australian or New Zealand University;
- Be in your at least your 2nd year of university study
- Have a keen interest in the mining industry or heavy industry

About SIMEC Tahmoor Coking Coal Operations
Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Our mine is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.
