Head of Commercial Operations – Iron Ore and Port (Adelaide, SA, AU)
About the role
SIMEC Mining is embarking on an exciting phase of change and growth. As such we are seeking to appoint the Head of Commercial Operations – Iron Ore and Port, to support achievement of the short and long-term goals and growth of the Whyalla Iron Ore & Port business units within SIMEC Mining.
The role has primary accountability for leading the provision of strategic commercial advisory and financial transactional services for the existing Iron Ore & Port businesses.
These services include;
- Provision of commercial recommendations, support, advice and corporate governance for the Whyalla Iron Ore Leadership team
- Provision of business and management information to support, influence and drive the achievement of business stream goals for profit and cash
- Provision of analysis and recommendations for business growth and gap closure opportunities
- Responsible for communicating business performance analysis and key business drivers
- Provision of statutory and management reporting, including weekly cashflow and EBITDA forecast reporting and month end closure reporting for the whole of the Whyalla Iron Ore & Port team
- Taking financial leadership on systems, cost, cash and risk management across SIMEC Mining
This role drives ongoing continuous improvement of business performance through the provision and interpretation of accurate financial information, guidance to facilitate sound decision-making and to manage the balance between profit and cash outcomes.
About your experience
Our ideal candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker with valuable insights of the financial space in the mining industry.
You will have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Business Management or a related field
- Formal accounting qualification CA/CPA
- Senior financial leadership experience in the mining industry or medium-large enterprise
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to engage with diverse high level stakeholders
- Strong financial knowledge, with strong business development and financial analysis skills
- Critical thinking and a strong business acumen
- Budget management, financial management and development and implementation of financial processes
- Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills
