Apprentice Mechanical Fitter – 2025 Apprenticeship Program – Whyalla (Whyalla, SA, AU)


Liberty Primary Steel and SIMEC Mining 2025 Apprenticeship applications are now open—apprenticeships in Mechanical and Electrical trades. 


About the opportunity

Our apprenticeships offer a great mix of practical work experience and technical learning, giving you a head start in your career. You’ll get guidance from experienced trades and engineering professionals, tap into your team’s knowledge, and tackle challenges that help you grow from day one.

On-site experience

Outside of TAFE Training, our apprentices gain hands-on experience on-site with tools, equipment, and machinery relevant to their trade. As part of your placement, you will be based at either our Liberty Primary Steel or SIMEC sites. 
Both Liberty Primary Steel and SIMEC Mining are based in Whyalla, SA!

Liberty Primary Steel boasts integrated steelworks with everything from steelmaking to rolling mill facilities, crafting essential products for local and global markets. Meanwhile, SIMEC Mining oversees iron ore operations in the picturesque Middleback Ranges, along with exploring copper-gold prospects. It’s your chance to dive into the heart of Australia’s industrial and mining sectors, immersing yourself into your pathway from day one.

About you

We are looking for passionate, driven, and dedicated individuals who are eager to kickstart their careers in heavy industries – Mining & Manufacturing. 


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant must:
    • Have completed at least Year 11 at high school and have either gained your high school certificate by January 2024; OR
    • are on the pathway to gaining your high school certificate.*
  • Be safety-focused, team-orientated and have good interpersonal skills
  • Full working right in Australia and currently resides in Australia


*Those on the pathway to gaining their high school certificate will be signed up to a school-based apprenticeship.

  • Resume – including copies of your last 2 years of results from School or RTO.
