About SIMEC Tahmoor Coking Coal Operations

Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Our mine is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

The Apprenticeship Program

Our apprenticeships offer a perfect balance of hands-on work experience and technical studies, ensuring you gain a competitive edge in your career. Receive mentorship from experienced Trades and Engineering professionals, draw upon your team’s expertise, and embrace challenges that foster growth and development from day one. Upon completing this 4- year apprenticeship, you will also obtain a nationally recognised trade qualification. 

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career and gain exposure to long-standing underground coal mining operation. 

About you

We are looking for passionate, driven, and dedicated individuals who are eager to kickstart their careers in heavy industries – Mining & Manufacturing. 

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicant must have completed at least Year 10 by the end of 2024 or have either gained your high school certificate by January 2025. 

  • Be safety focused, team orientated and have good interpersonal skills
  • Full working right in Australia and currently resides in Australia
  • Able to commute on a daily basis to the mine site and Wollongong TAFE for study purposes

  • Cover Letter that tells us about you and the reason you would like to pursue an Apprenticeship with us, we ask that you specify your trade preferences and to specify any of your immediate family that are currently employed at Tahmoor Colliery;
  • Resume that includes your personal details, education level, training, work experience and the contact details of 2 referees;
  • Copies of your last 2 years of results from School, RTO, TAFE or University;
  • Highlight any Extra-curricular achievements, Community Involvements and/or Qualifications
